About
We travelled to Salalah, Oman, in June of 2007 and fell in love with the area and its people. By chance we took a taxi one day and the driver was Mussallam. He was very generous in showing us around, taking us all kinds of places, and sharing with us his knowledge and experience of Salalah and the surrounding areas of the Dhofar region of Oman.
Salalah is different from the rest of Oman in that it is lush with green vegetation and animal life that you won’t find elsewhere in the region. It’s more like a tropical region in Africa or the Carribean than it is like the desert that surrounds it. There are palm trees all around, especially close to the coast, and there is plenty of wildlife everywhere. In fact, you will find camels, cows, and goats, wandering around in residential as well as commercial areas of cities and villages. This is a place where life moves slower, where you can take time to relax, where you can contemplate important things in life, where you can escape from your everyday worries and concerns.
It is also an area that is still not very developed when it comes to tourism. Most maps are not detailed and accurate enough for someone who is not familiar with the area to find their way around on their own. There is also a lot to see, but many sights are not marked on maps, and there are often no signs that can guide you in the right direction.
Since we had such a nice experience with Musallam, we thought, why not set up a web site about the region, and about his services, so others can benefit from the same great customer experience we did.
So please, if you’re going to Salalah and you’re looking for a personal touch in terms of taking a tour, get in touch with Musallam. He’s a great guide, offering to take you to whatever sights you want to see, whenever you want to go. He’s a pleasure to go around with, and he takes very good care of you. If you’re really lucky, he’ll even take you by his house where you can enjoy some warm milk, and play some soccer with his brothers.
